California Dreamin’

Cali was a cute little surfer girl from Santa Ana.
She was about this tall, had a sweet laugh, great smile,
deliriously long sun-bleached hair,
and a nice, tight little IM.

We liked to pretend we were in love.

She used to send me photos
of herself in the Victoria’s Secrets dressing room
at the mall with her iPhone
while she was sitting in Physics class.

“There’s more where that came from,”
she would wink.

She took me for a drive one night—
just her, her iPhone, and I.
We ended up out on the beach where
she lay me out beside her on a blanket, flipped me open,
and began texting with a warm, seductive voice
into my ear.

I thought I was roaming.

“Touch me—here,” she teased.
And forwarded me a photo of the inside of her thigh.

I was all thumbs.

I moved my hand slowly up the inside of her LCD.
She giggled as I started caressing her Instagram application.

Do you love me?” She purred.

“I thought we were pretending.” I replied.

  8. This actually started out as a flash fiction piece and is posted as such on my short fiction blog Knitting Clouds. But as short as it was.is–I thought i would try to turn it into a poem of sorts by breaking down the lines. I actually think it works better as a poem.

Funny thing is though, it is about a girl I used to know in Santa Ana, California, and for the most part–it’s not necessarily fiction.

But the reader doesn’t know that. But really–truth is stranger than fiction, and makes for good writing material. I mean, you can’t write–believable fiction–unless you’re willing to stick your neck out like that.

However, the only truth that matters–is Emotional Truth.

  9. If your vision is impaired, you definitely compensate with sexy b&w photos;) Your whole site is white on black. Is that easier for you? Your site also shows more knowledge of the WordPress platform than I bothered to learn. Did you self-teach, or did you get training?

    • This was intially a flash fiction piece, and yes it is easier on my eyes. However my other two blogs on WP are black on white. This was my first blog on WP which was easily 10 years ago and it’s been through several changes. I used to have a lot more poems poeted here. I’ve had no special training, I simply have a vision and am familiar with their text edtiors, several of which they’ve had over the years. Haven’t quite decided how I like the latest one, it’s intriguing, but I wouldn’t say it’s as accesible as their last one. Still, WP makes it pretty easy, depending on the theme.

The images I llifted off of Tumblr, when Tumblr was still worth lifting things from, and I like the subtle sexuaility it gives to the blog and the poetry. My other two blogs are far more stripped down; I don’t use images on them.
