Dogwood
Dogwood
for Sarah
We are but poor passing fates,
that I could not love you any more
than I do right now.
For I know of nothing in this world
so sad—or so beautiful
as your branches heavy with rain.

I beleive I stole a line here or there. The opening is from a Robert Lowell poem and another is from a Bob Dylan lyric, I think. It just all came out at once, in a sentence/message and then I broke it down into seperate lines.
I really wansn’t aware how painful and poignant it was when I actually said it, you know. It just kind of hung there in the air between us, like your breath in the cold.
It seemed proper to personify dogwoods, I like dogwoods, they are so beautiful blooming in the spring, but I don’t write poetry like I used to.
